Signature of Applicant Date The B709A Customs Form Customs are authorised by the Commissioner of Police, to release imported firearms, firearms parts, firearm accessories, firearm magazines and ammunition to any person who has been issued with a B709A form showing that they hold a licence or authorisation to possess the firearms, firearms parts, firearm accessories, firearm magazines or ammunition. Tasmania Police will only issue a B709A in the following circumstances If the firearm is already registered in Tasmania 1. When the registered firearm is being imported by a firearms licence holder (eg following an overseas hunting trip or after being repaired overseas). If the firearm is not yet registered in Tasmania 2. When the firearm is being imported by a licensed firearms dealer (eg for sale to a person who has a permit to acquire, or for dealers new stock). 3. When the firearm is being imported by a visitor to Tasmania who has been granted an exemption from the Firearms Act for the duration of his/her visit (eg visiting target shooters or hunter). 4. When the firearm is being imported by a new settler who has already obtained a Tasmanian firearms licence and has applied for registration for the firearm in Tasmania. 5. When the firearm is an "antique firearm" and has been exempted from the licensing and registration provisions of the Firearms Act. Notes Approval will not be given for the issue of B709A forms for firearms etc which are prohibited imports into Australia. For the purpose of a B709A for a firearm is not registered in Tasmania until it has been inspected by a firearms dealer, details such as the serial number have been verified in a physical examination, and a Certificate of Registration issued. The issue of a B709A does not authorise the importation of a firearm, firearm part or ammunition. The importation is subject to the conditions and requirements set out in the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations.
